I was extended a challenge to do 2 blog posts a week for two weeks. So far tomorrow is my first week deadline and I have exactly none written. Well once this one is complete then I'll have one. :)
I used to tell people I was motivated by deadlines. I worked on the Newspaper Staff for my high school paper (Editor in Chief junior year, Baby!) I blame it on that. I also blame Newspaper staff for the fact that I write in 3 sentence paragraphs.
So deadlines. Count downs. Chore charts. Some sort of goal. That is what I do. And I began to wonder how that could be related to happiness. And then I found this article on PsychologyToday.com by Timothy Pychyl which states "The consensus based on the psychology of action and personal goals clearly indicates that the successful pursuit of meaningful goals plays an important role in the development and maintenance of our psychological well-being.."
Holy cow! My life makes sense. For me, if I am left to do nothing (which has its time and place!) I don't accomplish much and begin to feel bleh. HOWEVER, when a goal is set and I can move forward with my goal I feel better. Maybe that is why I set so many goals?
He does note, the goals have to be personally important to be emotionally satisfying. So internalize them, ponder them, chew on it a bit, see the big picture and make it belong to you. THEN as you progress you'll get the benefit!
So I got my blog goal week one half done! Feeling pretty good now that I am here! WOOT!
